I would like to bring you a new children’s book SIR MORIEN The Legend of a Knight of the Round Table By Holly Black By Kaliis Smith Illustrated by Ebony Glenn. I received a copy of in exchange for this review.

Charlie and I sat down on the couch this morning to read  SIR MORIEN . Before we dived into the story I had Charlie read the Authors note which explains this picture book is a thirteenth-century Arthurian romance. Charlie and I discussed what we thought Arthurian romance was. Then we discussed where the Round Table had also been discussed.

Through the story we learn about family, friendship, and bravery which we all have not only in our families but inside ourselves. Charlie and I liked learning Prince Morien is brave, clever and true which we can all take lessons from. He lived with his mother a Princess and they lived in Northern Africa which Charlie can study in his Homeschool Classes when we study the States.

They go on many quests which would have been fun to join them on. But he was sad because he had never meet his father Sir Aglovale. SIR MORIEN decides to go on a quest to find him. They head into England. When they get there he learns no, one has heard of his father. Every knight he meets wants to fight him and he always wins.

We learn he misses his mom and questing was hard but he doesn’t give up. In the Welsh Countryside he meets two knights.  SIR MORIEN or Sir Lancelot became tired. Finally a knight tells them the fight is over. SIR MORIEN says only if they will tell him where his dad is. They let him know he was on a quest to save King Arthur.

Sir Gawain says they should quest together with Sir Lancelot. SIR MORIEN and Sir Lancelot don’t want to quest together but Sir Gawain says they must. They fund out they quested good together. They found clues and one lead to a castle. They hear help and was able to free King Arthur. They see someone else and it was SIR MORIEN father.

King Arthur was impressed with MORIEN fighting and he asked him to become a knight. Father and son shared stories. They knew from them on they would be buddies, best friends and brave knights. Charlie and I loved the story and would like to have others about stories about the knights and what happened to them.

We believe SIR MORIEN is for younger children although older children and there parents can learn from the story if they take the time to read it. I hope every school and library places this book on there shelves and history teachers adds SIR MORIEN to there reading list for there students. Just as I did for Charlie.
