When Sunday Doesn’t Feel Like Rest: The Mental Load No One Sees

Relaxation/ Rest/ Regroup/ Me-Time

I had written this post to share a bit ago but as usual life got away from me. Since this happens more to me than I want to count I wanted to go ahead and share “When Sunday Doesn’t Feel Like Rest: The Mental Load No One Sees”. Do you feel like this as well?

I’ve always believed Sundays are supposed to feel like rest. A pause before the week starts again. A soft landing. But for many people, my family including Sunday is actually when the mental load gets louder most of the time.

Sunday is when the planning starts again. What needs to be done this week. What didn’t get finished last week. What appointments are coming up. What meals need to be figured out. What deadlines are waiting.

Even if the day looks calm on the outside, the mind is already running ahead. This kind of invisible workload doesn’t always have a clear stopping point. It follows you through the day, even in quiet moments.

Rest isn’t just about time off. It’s about mental space. And when that space is full, even a quiet day doesn’t feel restful. Recognizing that doesn’t fix everything, but it does explain why rest sometimes feels out of reach even when life slows down.

When this happens to you what do you do and why?

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
