Earlier in the week we loaded up Big Red David’s truck and headed to Hobart, Oklahoma to drop Charlie off. We had been there several times in the past and have eaten her every time we visit. For as small a Town as it is we’ve always found somewhere new to eat and that is what we did on Wednesday.
I wanted to remind you some restaurant reviews are written after a quiet date night.
Some are written after a planned outing.
And then there are the reviews written after a day like ours — a day full of emotions, travel, Walmart aisles, tiny trucks, new phones, rearranged rooms, and a son stepping into adulthood.
Big-A Burger Drive Inn is that kind of review.
Because when we went to Hobart, we didn’t just go to eat.
We went to see Mikayla.
We went to support C.
We went to witness the beginning of their next chapter.
And in the middle of all that, we sat down and shared a meal — the kind of meal that becomes part of the story.
So today’s Restaurant Review Friday is not just about food.
It’s about family, love, chaos, and the moment everything changed.
Mikalya searched on her phone some place for us to eat at because we didn’t want to go to places we had visited in the past even though the food was good and prices more than fair we wanted some where new.
⭐ THE RESTAURANT: We Choose Was A SIMPLE, REAL‑LIFE SPOT IN HOBART
We didn’t go anywhere fancy. We didn’t need to. We went somewhere: Affordable, Comfortable, Familiar, Teen‑approved, Mikayla‑approved. “We’ve been in a truck for hours” approved
The kind of place where: The tables wobble a little, the napkins are thin, the food is hot and prepared when you order, the service is kind, the atmosphere is simple, the memories are big because sometimes the best meals aren’t the ones with white tablecloths — they’re the ones where your family sits together and breathes.
Once I walked in I couldn’t even order until I walked around the whole restroom because on every wall was signs, I wanted to stop and read. There were signs from one of my favorite singers. Signs Suzzane would have knew and signs from my childhood. It felt like I had walked into my living room.
Then I went to look at the Menu and oh my LORD they had everything from Breakfast served all day to Hamburgers that looked so good as they were cooking. I knew this was the perfect place for my family for lunch.
Then it was time to choose what to eat. For David and Charlie, it was easy Triple Meat Hamburgers with Fries and a Dr. Pepper. Mikalya knew she wanted a Breakfast Burrito. Now it’s my turn how do I choose. I picked out a Cheeseburger with Grilled Onions. Then it was Fries, Onion Rings I should have tried or Tater Tots. I choose Tater Tots because David got Cheese Fries. I also had a Chili Cheese Burrito.
⭐ WHAT WE ORDERED: We kept it simple: Or did we.
Triple Meat Cheeseburgers and they were cooked perfectly. The Seasoning was spot on. Charlie loved the Fries and before I could ask for one they were all gone. David was able to finish his Cheeseburger in one sitting but not Charlie who had dinner that night which was a Godsend.
My Cheeseburger had just the right amount of Mayonnaise, Lettuce and Grilled Onions which was spot on. The Tator Tots was so good and there was no, way I would be able to finish my Cheeseburger in one setting.
I couldn’t pass up the Chili Burrito which David didn’t get Cheese on for me which was slap yo” mama good. The Chili was homemade and wasn’t spicy and it didn’t bother me at all. I would like for David to go pick up a Burrito for me for lunch this afternoon but it’s too far away but when we go back, I will be stopping her.
Mikalya got the Breakfast Burrito which was huge and full of Sausage, Egg and Cheese. Charlie tried a taste and liked it a lot. Both David and Charlie plan on ordering this if we come back. Which I hope to do soon.
The Dr. Pepper was so good and full of Crushed Ice and the cups are hugs. I asked for Sweet Tea, and it was perfect and they have free refills, so I was able to bring a glass home with me that lasted all day.
This is defiantly comforting food at its best and a Cheeseburger my dad would have loved while my mom would have gotten lost in the decorations. The restaurant is in a tiny discreet building that if you didn’t know it was here you would have missed.
“For being in in a truck too long” this food hit the spot, and it is a place I would like to take everyone I know to including Bear and Pheobie for a Hamburger. You should come and join us next time if you’re ready for a “We’re about to have a big conversation” food experience.
Nothing fancy.
Nothing complicated.
Just food that fills your stomach so your heart can handle the rest.
⭐ THE EXPERIENCE
- The Atmosphere
Warm.
Casual.
Small‑town friendly.
The kind of place where people look up when you walk in — not to judge, but to say hello. - The Service
Quick.
Kind.
Patient.
They didn’t rush us.
They didn’t hover.
They let us have our moment - The Food
Hot.
Fresh.
Comforting.
Exactly what we needed after a long drive and an emotional day. - The Company
This is the part that matters.
C and Mikayla sat together like two people who already knew the ending of their story.
They talked.
They laughed.
They shared fries.
They made plans.
They looked at each other like the rest of the world didn’t exist.
And for a moment, everything felt still.
⭐ THE MOMENT WE’LL REMEMBER
Some meals are just meals.
This one wasn’t.
This was the meal after the proposal.
The meal before the goodbye.
The meal before the next chapter.
The meal where we saw our son as a man — choosing his future, choosing his partner, choosing his life.
This was the meal where everything changed.

⭐ WHAT WE LEARNED
You don’t need a fancy restaurant to make a memory.
You don’t need a perfect setting to have a perfect moment.
You don’t need a big budget to have a big day.
You just need:
Family, Love, Food, A table, A moment and sometimes, that’s everything.
