Before the day gets away from us, I wanted to share Day 12 in The Ultimate Blog Challenge: Finding Light Again — Moving Forward After Hard Days Meta Description: A comforting, evergreen reflection on rediscovering light and hope after loss, with gentle reminders about health and family support.
Day 12 arrived with a different kind of quiet — the kind that settles in after a hard day, when the world feels heavier but somehow clearer. Yesterday we buried Larry, my family stood beside Lisa and Joseph, and held space for grief that doesn’t disappear overnight. Today isn’t about pretending everything’s fine. It’s about finding the light again — even if it’s small.
The Morning After– Grief changes the air in a house. Bear stays close, Pheobie follows me room to room, C is quieter, and David leaves for work without saying much but calls me even earlier than usual— his way of checking in. Gerald steps into the kitchen “just to see how Charlie and I are holding up.” Everyone grieves differently, but we all feel the ripple.
Why Moving Forward Matters– Moving forward means honoring someone by living fully. Larry lived with humor, grit, and a stubborn streak that could outlast a Texas summer. He’d want us to laugh again, take care of Lisa and Joseph, and pay attention to our health.
The Light We Choose-Today, light looks like:
- A fresh cup of tea
- A clean notebook page
- A walk with the dogs
- A hug from C
- David checking on me without making a big deal
Light doesn’t have to be bright — it just has to be there.
A Gentle Reminder About Health– Pancreatic cancer is one of the quiet ones — the kind that hides until it’s too late. So please: get checked. Your family needs you here. Your story isn’t finished.
Porch‑Truth Moment– Healing doesn’t happen in a straight line. Some days you move forward. Some days you sit still. Both count.
Call to Action-How do YOU find light after hard days? Share your thoughts — your words may help someone who needs them today.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
