I don’t know about your home but in my home some days donât start with a plan â they start with a feeling. Today was one of those days. David was home because he had to work on the Truck. We picked up parts at Auto Zone.
Then we ended up at the Farmers Market in Haltom City, one of those local places that feels like itâs always been there and that is because it has been. You donât really go there for one thing â you go because something in you wants to slow down a little.
David and I walked up to the front of the building, and we looked at flowers and ended up picking out a small mix that just felt right. Nothing overly curated. Nothing expensive. Just real, seasonal, living things. How do you choose what flowers to plant? I choose by color or what speaks to me or whoever I am with.
From there, the day shifted. We stopped at Ace Hardware for potting soil, and suddenly this wasnât just a shopping trip anymore â it became a full front porch, back porch and garden reset. Not only with David and I but the neighbors started to spruce up there spaces as well.
Both the front and back porches ended up getting attention today. Plants moved. Spaces shifted. Things that had been sitting quietly finally got refreshed. We moved the glider to the back porch and the chairs up front because they match the couch on the top balcony and looked more cohesive.
And somewhere in the middle of all of this, I had this thought: Did I just date my husband today⌠or did I date myself? And the honest answer is â both. We didn’t spend a lot of money, but we spent time together and that is worth more than anything to me.
Because days like this donât feel like chores. They feel like shared life. Like youâre building something simple but meaningful together without even realizing it. While turning a apartment/ Townhome into a house.
I wanted to let you knowđ¸our GARDEN MOMENT included flowers from the Farmers Market that werenât perfect in a store-display way â they were better than that. They felt alive. They were colors my mom and David’s mom would love.
When we brought them home, they immediately changed the space. Thatâs the thing about plants â they donât ask for a full renovation. They just shift the energy of a place. We added potting soil from Ace Hardware and started arranging everything slowly. No rush. No pressure. Just movement.
One of the best parts of the day wasnât even in-person. I got to video chat with C and show him everything â the flowers, the porch, the setup in progress. Thereâs something really grounding about sharing small moments like that in real time. It turns a simple day into something shared, even across distance. These are the đ FAMILY MOMENTS I live for.
I decided to do a đĄ DIY PORCH RESET while David worked on the car. This wasnât a âbefore and afterâ makeover. It was more like a soft reset:
- rearranging what was already there
- adding fresh flowers
- clearing space
- letting everything breathe again while the dogs watched me and neighbors stopped by to see what I was doing.
Both the front and back porch now feel lighter, more seasonal, and more intentional. As we all wait for Charlie to come home.
If youâre looking to recreate something like this, here are the kinds of items that made it possible:
- đą Basic potting soil (Ace Hardware or similar garden centers)
- đ¸ Seasonal flowers from local farmers markets
- 𪴠Simple planters or porch containers
đ You can find similar gardening supplies at the paces I mentioned but before spending money check with your friends and family and see if they have stuff you can use.
Sometimes the best home projects arenât planned â theyâre just lived.
Have you ever had a âsimple errand turned full resetâ kind of day?
