I was talking to my neighbor Brandy yesterday and she reminded me there is only 17 Days Left of School. Isn’t that had to believe? For those #Homeschooling I wanted to bring you a Simple Dolly Parton Lesson You Can Start Today.
For most families with only 17 days left of school left, it’s easy to feel like everyone is just trying to get through the finish line. But this is actually a great time to slow things down and bring learning back to something simple and meaningful. Although some families school year-round and they can use this lesson plan as well.
Today, we’re focusing on Dolly Parton. This lesson plan isn’t as detailed as usual because with school ending soon children have begun to check out. I’ve given you enough to keep the learning happening without overwhelming you or the children.
David and I pulled together a few things we already had around the house—a couple of Dolly signs you will find at Dollar General, an art piece of her guitar from Hobby Lobby, and a magazine feature I found at Krogers. Just putting those out gave us a starting point for conversation.
For younger kids or anyone who might not be ready to read through a full article, we’re using My Little Golden Book About Dolly Parton (Little Golden Book Biographies) as an easy introduction to her story. Then you can read the magazine article to your students.
And to bring it all together, you can watch Coat of Many Colors, which helps kids see where she came from and what shaped her life. For more fun let the children look up where Dolly came from and let them make something she likes to eat.
Today isn’t about making a complicated lesson plan. It’s about talking, reading a little, watching together, and letting kids connect the dots in their own way. At this point in the school year, that’s more than enough. Sometimes the best lessons are the ones that feel like real life.
Thank you,
