I wanted to share a cute children’s book you will find inside our 2025 Christmas Gift Guide: Introduction to Greek Mythology for Kids: A Fun Collection of the Best Heroes, Monsters, and Gods in Greek Myth (Greek Myths) by Richard Marcus (Author), Natalie Buczynsky (Author), Jonathan Shelnutt (Author)
If we had been #Homeschool full time Charlie and I would have used Introduction to Greek Mythology for Kids: A Fun Collection of the Best Heroes, Monsters, and Gods in Greek Myth in our Homeschool Language Arts Class and our State studies when studying Greek.
Charlie has graduated so we just read the story for fun and learned so much through the novel we can’t wait to share this book with our friends and family. This is a Middle School Chapter book with lots of teaching moments in it.
David liked checking out the chapters on Mythical Beasts and Monsters. Charlie liked The Twelve Olympians and learning about Apollo. The illustrations are fun to look at. I thought Charlie and David might get bored with Introduction to Greek Mythology for Kids: A Fun Collection of the Best Heroes, Monsters, and Gods in Greek Myth but they didn’t and have read the book more than once just like I have.
About the book: Introduction to Greek Mythology for Kids: A Fun Collection of the Best Heroes, Monsters, and Gods in Greek Myth

But this book has more than just gods and goddesses! You’ll also discover the dangerous and intriguing world of ancient monsters, fantastical creatures, and mortal heroes that populate some of the most awesome stories from the time, including:
- Atlas, who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders
- Kronos, a Titan who swallows his newborn children

- Minotaur, a half-bull, half-man imprisoned in a labyrinth
- Hydra, a poisonous serpent who grows two heads when one is severed
- Sirens, sea nymphs whose irresistible singing lures sailors to their doom
All of these tales and more are written in a fun, kid-friendly manner, perfect for children interested in history or for fans of the Percy Jackson series.
About the author
Once upon a time I worked in the magical world of theatre, but after nearly fifteen years of struggling to stay in one place I was worn out and needed a change. I went off into the real world for a while and worked first in a bead store and then in a denture lab. As T. S Elliot said “Mankind can only bear so much reality” and it all became too much for me, so I’ve run back to the shelter of the arts and took up the pen – well the keyboard anyway – and been happily ensconced here since 2005.
Thankfully I seem to be making progress as a writer as I began to pick up freelance work early in 2008 with the publication of an extensive interview with Willy DeVille in the German edition of Rolling Stone Magazine. Since then I’ve begun publishing the occasional article for the German based web site Qantara.de, written the liner notes for a DVD, and been commissioned to write the book “What Will Happen In Eragon lV? (published in 2009) by the nice people at Ulysses Press. They must have liked the work I did on it, and of those who actually read it before reviewing it there seems to be an even split between liking and hating it, because they commissioned me to co-author a second book. “The Unofficial Heroes Of Olympus Companion” which was published in 2011. I’m still looking for a publisher for my own fantasy series, “The Paths Life Takes” and am working on a couple of other projects as well. Of course you can always read my reviews and other articles at my blog Leap In The Dark (www.richardrbmarcus.com) or at Blogcritics.org.
Somehow or other I find myself fifty years old, happily married and living in Kingston Ontario Canada with three Cats. We all live in a small house with a big yard happily being crazy and making art as we can. Once a month you can find me at a local open mic poetry/prose series trying out new work. You can also catch the readings from this open mic series on CFRC radio live at 88.1 FM in the Kingston vicinity or streaming on line at their web site. http://cfrc.ca
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
