Grandma’s Kind of Cooking

Cooking Motivational Sunday Recipes

For me Sundays used to feel slower. Quieter. Like the whole world paused long enough for us to breathe, sit around the table, and eat something warm that smelled like love. There was time to breathe and visit friends.

My grandma didn’t need fancy ingredients or Pinterest boards. She cooked with what she had, LOVE seasoned with her heart, and a pinch of that a smidgen of this and she would feed whoever walked through the door. After handing them a glass of Sweet Tea or Buttermilk if she didn’t tell them to help themselves.

And today — in the middle of our chaos, our Dollar Tree snack runs, our Sonic Happy Hours, our Big Red addictions, and our one‑streetlight‑town memories — I’m reminding myself:

We can still bring that feeling back. One crockpot. One meal. One Sunday at a time.

So, here’s a simple, cozy, grandma‑approved dinner for after the adventures you had today or Church— no fuss, no stress, just comfort.

🍲 GRANDMA’S SUNDAY CROCKPOT CHICKEN & POTATOES

Warm, simple, and smells like home.

Ingredients:

  • 4–6 chicken thighs or breasts
  • 4 medium potatoes, chunked
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt, pepper, garlic powder
  • Optional: thyme, rosemary, paprika

Instructions:

  1. Spray your crockpot or rub with butter.
  2. Add potatoes, carrots, and onions to the bottom.
  3. Season chicken well and lay on top.
  4. Mix soup + broth + seasonings and pour over everything.
  5. Cook on LOW 6–7 hours or HIGH 3–4 hours.
  6. Serve with rolls, green beans, or whatever Grandma would’ve grabbed.

Warm. Easy. Feeds the whole house. Smells like childhood.

“A pinch of this, a smidgen of that, a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck — from Dorie to you.”

🌿 SUNDAY MOTIVATION:

You don’t need a perfect home, a perfect plan, or perfect timing.

You just need a moment to breathe, a meal to share, and the people you love around the table.

That’s enough. You’re enough. And dinner is handled.
