I’ve been a life long fan of the Wizard of Oz for as long as I can remember and for me there is something magical about opening a book and feeling like you have stepped into another world. That is exactly how I felt when I opened Postcards From Oz: 20 Postcards Featuring W. W. Denslow’s Classic Illustrations From The Wonderful Wizard of Oz which you will find inside our Summer Gift Guide.

As a lifelong fan of the characters from Oz, I immediately loved seeing Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and even Oz himself brought together in this charming postcard collection. But it wouldn’t be the Wizard of Oz without Dorthey and Toto. Would it?

Did you know The Tin Man has always been my favorite character? But I have to admit, the Scarecrow is pretty adorable too. Every postcard captures the imagination and the whimsical artwork that has helped make The Wonderful Wizard of Oz such a beloved story for generations.

This beautiful collection celebrates the original illustrations of W. W. Denslow, the artist whose colorful and unforgettable artwork helped define L. Frank Baum’s classic story when it was first published in 1900. These postcards all us a walk down the yellow brick road throughout the art work.

Published by Smith Street Books, this collection includes 20 postcards featuring Denslow’s iconic artwork. The postcards are packaged together in an easy-to-pull-out format, ready to share with friends, family, or anyone who loves the magic of Oz. They are the perfect size for framing.

The cover immediately catches your attention with the beloved characters gathered together. Once you open the collection, you discover even more delightful illustrations waiting inside. But this set it more than postcards its a way to tell the story when you don’t have the book on hand.

What makes these postcards special is that they are not just something to collect — they are something you can use. Each postcard has a place for a stamp, an area for the address, and space to write your own message. The back even includes room for your thoughts, making it easy to send a little piece of Oz to someone special.

Imagine sending a postcard that says:

“There’s no place like home.”

That simple message carries so much meaning.

These would be perfect to send to:

  • Grandparents
  • Friends and family
  • Someone who loves classic books
  • A child away at camp
  • Anyone who could use a little encouragement
  • Pen pals

One of my favorite things about this postcard collection is the opportunity for creativity and one way the postcards can be use is as a Creative Writing Activity for Kids These postcards would make a wonderful homeschool activity or summer learning project. Children can choose a postcard illustration and create their own story.

They could write:

  • What adventure is happening in the picture?
  • Where are Dorothy and her friends going next?
  • What would the Tin Man say?
  • What happened before this scene?
  • What happens after they follow the Yellow Brick Road?

It is a simple way to encourage:

  • Creative writing
  • Storytelling
  • Reading comprehension
  • Imagination
  • Handwriting practice

Instead of spending another summer afternoon in front of a screen, children can create their own Oz adventure and share it with someone they love. These postcards are not only a keepsake for Wizard of Oz Fans but a must add item to any Wizard of the Oz collectors.

As you flip through the postcards, every page brings a new favorite moment. One postcard features Dorothy and Toto. Another highlights the Tin Man. There are scenes with the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow that make you smile. One of my favorites shows the characters working together as they climb on top of each other to reach their destination. It captures the teamwork and friendship that makes The Wonderful Wizard of Oz such a timeless story.

Even David found a favorite — the illustration showing the Lion, Scarecrow, and Tin Man together as they work to reach the top. That is what makes this collection special. Everyone can find a character or moment that reminds them why they love Oz. I can’t wait to show them to Charlie and see what he has to say.

When looking for summer gifts, I love finding items that do more than sit on a shelf and this is why you will find Postcards From Oz: 20 Postcards Featuring W. W. Denslow’s Classic Illustrations From The Wonderful Wizard of Oz inside our Summer Gift Guide

Postcards From Oz can become:

  • A creative activity
  • A homeschool lesson
