Charlie has always had ADHD and so did Suzzane and I wouldn’t be surprised if David and I don’t have it as well. Homeschooling Charlie was so hard because he would get distracted and wouldn’t stay on task so we could get out Lessons done in a timely manner.
Even though we didn’t have a copy of The Distraction Monster when #Homeschooling Charlie there is still plenty for us to learn from the book which will come in hand with Charlie job hunting this week. Come join me as we check out Ollie and his family.
On a cold day Ollie is drawing in his room, and his mom comes in and tells Ollie he must clean his room before going to the Pasta Palace for dinner. Ollie finds out his grandmother Graham Cracker will be at the dinner.
Ollie looks at his room which was clean that morning but is messy now. A ball of fur comes crashing through the window which was the Distraction Monster. Ollie reminds the Distraction Monster he always comes when Ollie needs to get something done.
Ollie goes into the closet for his cowboy hat and rope and lassos the whirlwind and throws it out of his room. His mom walks in and the room is even messier. His mom reminds him to clean up because they have to go.
The Distraction Monster distracts Ollie with his drawing, and the room doesn’t get cleaned. The Dragon comes to life and Ollie and the Distraction Monster go on a ride. They see the Train and race it but then the bridge is out and they have to save the pasengers.
Ollies mom calls Ollie and ask if his room has been cleaned. Ollie tries to stay on task but the Distraction Monster says there is lava which will take over but Ollie begins to clean the room and he wins because he gets it all cleaned without getting distracted.
At dinner Ollie tells his Grandma Cracker about his Distraction Monster and she tells Ollie she has one to and how its better to work with the Distraction Monster because he is part of Ollie. I loved the story and how it teaches children a lesson we can all learn from.
The Distraction Monster is for younger elementary students, but children and adults of all ages will enjoy the story and the illustrations. The Distraction Monster is the first book in the series, and I can’t wait to get The Distraction Monster: Pirates on the Playground for our family to read as well.
About the book:
The Distraction Monster is here to do what he does best!
Ollie’s distraction monster brings him plenty of new ideas and adventures-like flying on the back of his dragon drawing to saving the passengers of a make-believe train-but he also takes Ollie’s attention away from his chores, and Ollie has to clean his room before going to family dinner at the Pasta Palace. How can he get anything done with the Distraction Monster making things even messier than before?
Join Ollie as he learns to work with his distraction monster to have adventures while still completing tasks in this fun-filled story about managing ADHD.
