As a mom it’s hard to take time for ourselves but I’ve been making it a point to set aside 12 to noon for lunch even if I don’t eat, I regroup and watch a t show or two. Which leads me to Lunch, Laughter, and Letting Myself Off the Hook.

I get to spend time with the Dogs and sometimes Charlie or my brother. Or David if he is home. By noon, the house has shifted back into its usual rhythm. Charlie may wander into the kitchen asking what we were eating. Which most times turn out to be Tony’s Pizza with Ranch Charlie and Pizza for me.

Bear is barking at the air as he is outside on the back Patio hanging out. David calls me from work to check on everyone and to see if we need anything on his way home. David may or may not let mew know he is panning on stopping to give Plasma on Denton Hight in Haltom City.

Life has resumed. Lunch wasn’t fancy. It wasn’t Pinterest-worthy. It wasn’t even planned. But it was enough. I was able to laugh and talk with Charlie and for this mom that makes a perfect lunch. We existed without rushing which was a true Godsend.

And somewhere between the stove beeping and C telling me a story that made absolutely no sense but made me smile anyway, I realized: The missing hour didn’t ruin the day. It revealed th day and made it more fun

The missing hour revealed what mattered and it also revealed what didn’t matter. The missing hour revealed that perfection is a myth I keep trying to chase even though it keeps outrunning me. It’s okay to stop and breath and the world will keep moving forward making the circle of life unbroken.

Thank you,

Glenda, and Charlie and David Cates
