Aldi Chicken Bacon Alfredo: A Real-Life Dinner We Keep Coming Back To

Aldi/ Aldi Aisle of Shame Food Grocery Stores/ Shopping for Food Shopping

David and I’ve been shopping more and more at Aldi and now David even looks for there sales tags in the freezer department. The other day David found a Chicken Bacon Alfredo meal we thought Charlie and Bradley might like but neither boy was home.

When we decided to go and visit Charlie we picked up the Aldi Chicken Bacon Alfredo, which wasn’t planned as a “let’s try something new” kind of meal. We grabbed because Charlie was in Hobart, Oklahoma, and we wanted to make sure he had food up there that he would actually eat. At that point, we weren’t even sure what all he liked or didn’t like, so we were kind of playing it safe with easy meals we thought would work for him.

When he got back home, I honestly never got a straight answer from him on whether he liked it or not. That’s pretty normal around here though. Then David said Charlie told him something about it, but of course I didn’t hear it directly, so I just kept it in the back of my mind as one of those “maybe he’ll eat it again, maybe he won’t” meals.

Fast forward to a recent trip to Aldi, and David spotted it again—this time marked down on clearance for half price. I don’t know about you, but when David and I see something the boys will eat and it’s on clearance, were probably going to grab it. David picked up two boxes without even thinking twice.

What I’ve noticed with this meal is that it says it should make two to three servings, but in our house, that’s not always how it goes. For Charlie, it’s basically one full meal on its own. He doesn’t stretch it out like I probably would, but that’s okay because at least I know he’ll eat it and be full.

I did taste it myself, and honestly, I didn’t mind it at all. It was actually pretty good. The only thing I’m not a big fan of is the shredded cheese they put on top of the chicken Alfredo. I just don’t really like shredded cheese sitting on top of things like that, so I usually just push it aside. Other than that, I thought it was fine and something I wouldn’t mind buying again.

I also like that it’s one of those meals that can stretch in different ways depending on what we need. It makes a good lunch for Bradley and Charlie, and on a busy weeknight it could easily be a quick dinner for us if we needed it. If I paired it with garlic bread, it would feel more like a full meal and honestly could turn into one of those “eat once, cook once, eat twice” situations, which I really appreciate when things get hectic.

At the end of the day, it’s one of those Aldi finds that just kind of works for real life. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated, just something quick that fills everyone up and doesn’t break the budget. And in this season of life, that matters more than anything.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
