The Unwipe Review: A Different Approach to Toilet Paper for Busy Families

The Mommies Reviews

I have a unique product I wanted to share with you this morning my family received in exchange for a review. It is called The Unwipe Review: A Different Approach to Toilet Paper for Busy Families Have you ever heard of The UnWipe?

As you know my family lives in Appian Way Townhome Apartments, and these are older apartments. Charlie likes to joke that they were built before the dinosaurs, but I think they’re probably more like 1970s construction. Either way, one thing we’ve learned the hard way is that the plumbing here is not forgiving at all. We were told early on that flushable wipes are not safe for our system, and sure enough, they’ve caused issues for us in the past not because we’ve use them but our neighbors has. We’ve also seen the same thing happen in my mother-in-law’s home.

Because of that, I’ve always had to be very careful about what we use in the bathroom, especially in a busy household where life just doesn’t always go as planned. That’s part of what made The Unwipe so interesting not only to me but my friends and family as well.

When it arrived, I honestly didn’t expect to laugh, but I did. It’s very small—almost purse-sized—and a pretty blue color. It reminded me of a Scotch Tape dispenser. My first thought was that I couldn’t wait to show it to Charlie when he wasn’t busy gaming, because of course he was fully focused on that yesterday.

Inside the package was a simple card thanking us for trying the product, along with instructions and a QR code that leads to a short video. The company really encourages users to watch the video first, because they want people to understand the correct way to use it. I can understand that, because sometimes with products like this, a small step can make a big difference in how well it works.

The idea behind The Unwipe is to replace traditional flushable wipes by changing the texture of regular toilet paper using a small amount of water. You start with dry toilet paper like normal, then lightly add water, press it into the textured surface, and use it as needed. It’s designed to give a thicker, more effective wipe without relying on disposable wipes.

One thing that stood out to me was the maintenance instructions. It does require cleaning, and they recommend doing that about once a month. The outside can be washed with soap and water, and the inside can be cleaned with either vinegar or even a dishwasher or microwave method. I’ll be honest, I’m not putting it in my dishwasher or microwave. Vinegar will be my approach every time which is a staple in my home. How about your home?

The Unwipe is priced at around $29, and while that may seem like a lot for something so small, the company explains that it could save money over time compared to constantly buying disposable wipes. They also offer bundle discounts if you purchase more than one. What really made me think, though, is how many different ways a product like this could actually fit into family life.

With my father dealing with dementia and needing more support, I can see how something like this could help my mother-in-law feel more comfortable using something she already prefers, but in a safer way for their home plumbing. It gives a sense of dignity while also protecting the home from unnecessary damage.

I also thought about David and Charlie. Both of them work outside the home, and Charlie especially is always on the go. He works at the airport, and like a lot of workplaces, not every restroom is always fully stocked. Having something small like this tucked into a bag could actually make a difference on long days.

Even something as simple as road trips, diaper bags, or travel kits came to mind while I was looking at it. And I could even see this being one of those unusual but practical stocking stuffer gifts during the holidays. You will even find this inside our Back to School Gift Guide because school nurses might like having The UnWipe.

This is one of those products that I think will really depend on each household. It may not be something everyone feels they need, but for families who are trying to avoid plumbing issues or reduce disposable wipe use, it definitely gives another option to consider.

Either way, it gave us something to talk about here at home, and I’m still looking forward to showing it to Charlie when he slows down long enough to look up from his game. I also can’t wait to share this with my sister and my best friend Debbie then I will try it out for myself.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
